As part of a major training exercise to hone the NATO forces’ ability to work together, the United States and British air forces have been flying joint missions over Estonia this week.
The U.S. is joining British, Estonian, Lithuanian and Latvian forces in the Operation Atlantic Resolve Training exercise, which began July 25 and ends August 8, according to the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force says the training also "demonstrates our continued commitment to both our allies and European security and stability."
In one flight, a U.S. KC135 refueling tanker jet and two A-10 Warthog fighters, flanked by a pair of British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 jets, cruised over Tallinn, Estonia's capital.
The exercise comes after several incidents this year in which Russian aircraft and naval vessels have come very close to planes and ships belonging to the U.S. and several European nations. The U.S. has complained to Russian authorities about the incidents.
