The United Nations Security Council has authorized a one-year extension of the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid into rebel-held areas of Syria without Syrian government consent.
The resolution unanimously adopted by the Council on Wednesday authorizes aid deliveries at a total of four border crossings in Turkey, Iraq and Jordan. The extension lasts until January 2016.
The United Nations says 12.2 million Syrians now need humanitarian aid. That includes 7.6 million displaced within Syria and nearly four million more in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt.
