United Nations inspectors visited a plant in Syria Friday as part of a probe of the country's suspected nuclear activities.
The inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited the Homs acid purification facility in western Syria. The plant produces uranium ore as a byproduct, which with further processing could be used as nuclear fuel.
Syria denies any nuclear weapons ambitions. But it continues to deny U.N. inspectors the right to visit a site bombed by Israel in 2007. It is suspected that Syria was using the site to build an undeclared nuclear reactor to produce bomb material.
Last month, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency criticized Syria and its close ally, Iran, for not cooperating in ongoing probes of their controversial nuclear programs.
