A United Nations team has arrived in Syria to discuss its investigation into possible chemical weapons use in the country.

Swedish chemical weapons expert Ake Sellstrom and U.N. disarmament chief Angela Kane traveled to Damascus on Wednesday at the invitation of the government.

The United Nations wants to send its investigators to several sites in Syria where either government forces or opposition rebels have accused the other side of using chemical weapons.

President Bashar al-Assad's government wants the U.N. team to probe a single incident in Khan al-Assal in Aleppo province and has refused to allow a wider inquiry that would include access to other sites.
