Typhoon Utor has slammed into the southern coast of China, bringing high winds and heavy rains to Hong Kong and Guangdong province.
The storm forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from low-lying areas and the closure of schools and businesses, including the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Hundreds of flights have been delayed and more than 25,000 fishing vessels were ordered to return to port ahead of the storm.
However, there have been no reports in China of major damage or loss of life from the storm.
The typhoon passed over the Philippines earlier this week, causing landslides, and flooding that killed at least six people and left 30,000 displaced.
