Tibetan sources say two Tibetan demonstrators have died in custody after being shot by Chinese security forces in southwest China last week.
Sources said in an interview with VOA's Tibetan service that one of the demonstrators killed himself in detention Sunday to protest against the security crackdown. They said a second detainee died Sunday from his injuries.
Tibetan rights groups say Chinese authorities have denied medical treatment to at least 10 demonstrators who were wounded in the protest in Sichuan province on August 12. Since the demonstration, Tibetan sources say nearly all the men in the village of Kardze have been detained.
Reports say the villagers from the town were protesting the detention of a village leader last week when Chinese forces opened fire on the group.
Sichuan province has been a flashpoint for Tibetan protests against Chinese rule.
More than 120 Tibetans have set themselves on fire since 2009 in Tibetan regions of China, including Sichuan. The Tibetans are protesting what they say is Chinese repression of their culture. China denies the charges and says the suicide protests are acts of terrorism.
