Israeli security forces gather at the scene where a female Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli troops at the entrance to Kiryat Arba near the West Bank city of Hebron, June 24, 2016.

Israel’s military said that its troops shot and killed a Palestinian woman after she rammed her vehicle into a West Bank checkpoint Friday, injuring two Israelis.

The army said in a statement that the woman “accelerated and crashed into a stationary vehicle” at the entrance to the settlement of Kiryat Arba.

The two injured Israeli civilians, identified as a couple in their 50s, were taken to the hospital.

The Kiryat Arba settlement is near the West Bank city of Hebron, which has long been a flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Friday’s incident is the latest in a series of attacks that killed more than 200 Palestinians, 32 Israelis, two Americans, an Eritrean and a Sudanese since October.

According to Israeli authorities, most of the Palestinians were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks.

Others were killed in clashes with security forces or by Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip.
