Uganda military officials say 40 gunmen are dead following a skirmish between state security forces and tribal militia near the Democratic Republic of Congo border.
A military spokesman tweeted 41 armed men attacked police posts and army barracks Saturday in three districts of Uganda.
According to police, attackers came armed with guns, spears and machetes. Police say the attackers killed at least 12 people.
The attacks occurred in three districts of Uganda: Kasese, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo - all of which have a history of tribal violence against the state.
