A Turkish court has jailed three journalists on charges of involvement in an alleged plot against the government.
The court on Friday charged Soner Yalcin, who runs a news website that is critical of the government, along with two of his colleagues, with involvement in the so-called Ergenekon group, which is alleged to be a group of people plotting against the government. The exact charges were not released.
Yalcin runs the website Oda TV.
A number of other journalists, academics, soldiers, and politicians are already on trial as a result of the probe into the alleged conspiracy.
Wednesday, the U.S. ambassador to Turkey, Francis Ricciardone, said he was concerned about media freedom in Turkey. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu replied that it is not right for an ambassador to make judgments about an ongoing investigation.
