Protesters clashed with police in Washington as Donald Trump was being sworn into office. Black-clad demonstrators smashed storefront windows and scattered broken glass along a major downtown street. Washington police fired pepper spray, cornered about 75 protesters and arrested them about two kilometers from the ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.
Police also used used tear gas and concussion grenades to disperse protesters at several scattered locations in the city. At one point a group advocating for Native American rights chained themselves to a security checkpoint to prevent Trump supporters from entering the National Mall.
