Thousands of people are lining the inaugural parade route, awaiting the arrival of new President Donald Trump, even as anti-Trump protests continue in other areas of the city
President Donald Trump, who has been extremely active on his personal Twitter handle, has tweeted for the first time from the official @POTUS account.
More footage is coming in from anti-Trump protests that turned violent a few blocks away from the inaugural parade route. Washington DC police say about 100 people have been arrested.
Among the documents signed earlier in the day by new President Donald Trump was a bill allowing retired General James Mattis to serve as Defense Secretary. Last week congress cleared the way for Mattis' quick confirmation by endorsing a waiver that would allow him to lead the Pentagon despite retiring from active duty as a Marine general only in 2013.
