Tributes to Boston at London Marathon

A defiant, festive mood prevailed Sunday at the London Marathon, despite concerns raised by last week's bombings at the Boston Marathon.

Six days after bombs exploded near the finish line in Boston, runners in London sent out a powerful message of solidarity with the northeastern U.S. city and its victims.

Ethiopian Tsegaye Kebede won the men's race in two hours, six minutes, four seconds. Kenyan Priscah Jeptoo became the women's champion by finishing the 45-kilometer race in 2:20:15.

About 34,000 runners competed in London. Organizers have pledged to donate $3 for every finisher to "The One Fund Boston,'' set up to raise money for the bombing victims.

Thousands of New Yorkers wearing "I Run for Boston'' signs completed in a 6.4-kilometer run Sunday in Central Park, one of a number of races held around the country in support of the victims of the marathon bombings.

Races also were held in St. Louis, San Francisco, Lansing, Michigan and Burlington, Vermont.
