Germany's federal prosecutor says three German citizens who donated money to Islamist militant groups have been charged with assisting terrorists.
The three allegedly supplied cash to terrorist groups and used the Internet to spread radical Islamist views.
Prosecutors say the actions of the three suspects aided the Islamic Jihad Union, the German Taliban Mujahedin and al-Qaida.
Two of the suspects are in custody while authorities search for the third.
One suspect is the wife of a German convert to Islam, Fritz Gelowicz, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison earlier this year for a foiled plot to bomb U.S. soldiers and civilians in Germany.
At his trial, Gelowicz and three other defendants admitted they were members of the Islamic Jihad Union, a terrorist organization based in Pakistan. They said their failed attack, planned for September 2007, was timed to coincide with a vote in the German parliament on extending the country's military presence in Afghanistan.
