Two Britons and a Mexican have reached the summit of Mount Everest along with three Nepali guides - the first foreigners to do so in two years, officials said Thursday.
Kenton Cool, 42, Robert Richard Lucas, 47, and David Liano Gonzalez, 36, reached the 8,850 meter peak early Thursday and are already headed back down.
A team of nine sherpas reached the summit Wednesday from the Nepali side to fix ropes for the foreign climbers in time for the first clear weather window of this year's campaign to open.
A devastating earthquake killed 19 climbers at base camp last year, causing the season to be cancelled. Everest was also unavailable to climbers in 2014 after an avalanche killed 16 Sherpa guides above base camp.
