The European Union police mission in Kosovo says it has arrested a suspect wanted in the United States on terrorism-related charges.
The unidentified suspect, described as a man in his 30s, was arrested on an extradition request in the northern Kosovo city of Mitrovica.
A police statement said the man faces charges in the U.S. state of North Carolina of conspiracy to kill or kidnap persons or property in a foreign country.
U.S. authorities last year charged seven men in North Carolina with plotting to carry out terrorist attacks abroad. One of the suspects was identified at the time as Hysen Sherifi, a permanent U.S. resident originally from Kosovo.
Kosovo authorities Thursday did not say whether the man arrested this week had links to the 2009 group.
The United States is a key supporter of Kosovo's independence, and has maintained a peace-keeping force of more than 1,400 troops there since the country's 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia.
The U.S. detachment is part of a 10,000-person NATO-EU force that, along with some 2,000 police, judges and prosecutors, are deployed in Kosovo to help the country develop democratic institutions.
