Taliban fighters have launched an assault on an Afghan army outpost neat the border with Pakistan, killing at least 13 soldiers.
The attack took place in the Nari district of Kumar province. Police officials said reinforcements have been sent to the region.
The Taliban claimed that weapons and ammunition were captured from government forces.
Foreign troops from the United States and other countries are preparing to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of next year. Earlier this month, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff met with Afghan officials to assess the number of U.S. troops that should remain in the country to train Afghan soldiers after next year.
