Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. drone missile strike in the tribal region on the Afghan border has killed at least six people.
The attack took place overnight in a village near Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan.
Officials say the missiles targeted a house owned by a local resident. At least five women and two children were wounded in the strike.
The United States has increased its use of drone strikes to target al-Qaida and Taliban hideouts in the tribal belt along the Afghan border. The Pakistan government has objected to the strikes, saying the attacks are a violation of its sovereignty, and fuel anti-U.S. feeling in the country.
This was the fifth such strikes in the region since a Pakistani-born U.S. citizen was arrested for a failed car bombing in New York City's Times Square. U.S. officials say the Pakistani Taliban played a role in directing the failed attack on May 1.
