Separate bomb attacks by suspected al-Qaida militants have killed a senior army officer and three soldiers in Yemen's restive south and east.
Yemeni officials say Brigadier Ahmed Saleh Omari was killed in Aden when a bomb exploded either in or on his car.
Another security official says a bomb planted on a road from Sayoun to Shibam killed three Yemeni soldiers and wounded six others.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Security forces blamed al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, considered the global terror network's most active branch. Its militants have shifted operations to Hadramout after the army, backed by U.S. drones, helped drive the group out of southern strongholds earlier this year.
In addition to AQAP, Yemen's government also is battling southern separatists and northern rebels amid political turmoil that surged after 2011.
