A suicide car bomber in central Somalia has set off a blast targeting a senior police official.
Authorities say the attack Monday in Galkayo wounded the deputy police commissioner of Somalia's Puntland region and at least 13 other people, including soldiers and civilians.
The Somali insurgent group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
African and Somali government forces have driven al-Shabab from its former strongholds in Somalia, but the group still carries out periodic suicide and guerilla attacks.
