Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed at least 12 militants.
The officials said a drone aircraft fired two missiles Saturday at a compound east of Miranshah, in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal region.
They said some of those killed included foreigners.
The suspected U.S. missile attack followed the arrival of the U.S. special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, in Islamabad for talks with top Pakistani officials.
U.S. President Barack Obama has increased the use of drone strikes to target al-Qaida and Taliban hideouts in the tribal belt along Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.
Pakistan's government has objected to the attacks, saying they violate its sovereignty.
