Indian officials said Friday they fear nine people remain trapped inside the Srisailam power plant after a fire late Thursday.

Authorities say at least eight people escaped the underground facility after the blaze started.

The hydroelectric power plant is a joint project of Telegana and Andhra Pradesh states. The fire broke out on the Telegana side of the facility.

Heavy smoke prevented emergency workers from locating the people remaining inside.
