A commander of the Somali rebel group al-Shabab says a U.S. drone strike has killed one of the group's senior leaders.
Ahmed Abdulkadir Abdullahi, known as "Iskudhuuq," was killed when his car was hit by a missile in Somalia's Lower Shabelle region.
Rebel sources told VOA's Somali service that the victim was a senior aide to al-Shabab's top leader and was recently appointed head of al-Shabab's health department. His driver also was killed in the attack.
Last October, a U.S. military drone strike hit a vehicle carrying senior members of the al-Qaida-linked group, killing its top explosives expert.
