Severe winter weather in Europe Wednesday forced the unusual closure of the Eiffel tower in Paris, claimed one victim in Spain and caused chaos on Scottish roads.
Officials said heavy snow in Paris also shut down the main Charles de Gaulle airport, roiled bus traffic and made most main roads impassable.
Authorities in Spain said a nine-year-old boy died as winter flash floods overwhelmed the vehicle he was traveling in with his father.
In Scotland, officials cautioned motorists, saying ice and snow had created dangerous driving conditions.
Unusually high winds in Portugal damaged houses and cars, and uprooted trees and electricity poles.
Cold temperatures and deep snows have already claimed dozens of lives in Europe. At least 40 people have died in the last 10 days, with 30 of those frozen to death in Poland alone.
British Airways said on its website that Wednesday's weather conditions in Britain and the rest of Europe were delaying some flights.
