Two people were killed and 12 others wounded in a shooting Tuesday at a high school in the southeastern U.S. state of Kentucky, according to Governor Matt Bevin.
Bevin said the suspected shooter was a 15-year-old boy who was apprehended at the school and will face murder and attempted murder charges. A 15-year-old girl died on the scene and a 15-year-old boy died at a hospital. Bevin said he believed all of the victims were students.
The shooting occurred at Marshall County High School in the city of Benton in western Kentucky.
Bevin issued a statement saying, "It is unbelievable that this would happen in a small, close-knit community like Marshall County."
Federal authorities have joined state and local law enforcement agencies in the investigation.
Kentucky State Police said they have no reason to believe anyone else was involved shootings.
The school, which has an enrollment of more than 1,100 students, is about 40 kilometers from Paducah, Kentucky, where a 1997 school shooting claimed the lives of three people and injured five others.
