French authorities have arrested a Serbian man wanted in connection with the massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslims near Srebrenica in 1995.

Miodrag Momic was arrested Monday near Grenoble, France, where he had been living under the name Guy Monier.

Momic, 47, was arrested under an international warrant for crimes against humanity for his alleged role as a member of a paramilitary unit known as the Scorpions.

The group was controlled by the Serbian Interior Ministry and is believed to have fought for Serbia in Bosnia as well as in an earlier conflict in Croatia and later in Kosovo.

Four member of the Scorpions were convicted in Serbia in 2007 and have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for their roles in the Srebrenica massacre.

The Scorpions took part in the conflicts in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo.
