The United Nations said three peacekeepers from Senegal have been killed in Sudan's West Darfur region.
The joint U.N.-African Union Mission in Darfur, UNAMID, said an armed group ambushed a police unit Sunday as the unit escorted a water convoy to the mission's regional headquarters.
It said one other peacekeeper was injured, and the assailants hijacked a vehicle that was later recovered.
The mission said Sudanese government forces pursued the assailants and engaged them in a gunbattle that reportedly led to casualties on both sides.
Armed men stabbed and killed another peacekeeper from Zambia on Friday in North Darfur.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned both deaths and demanded the Sudanese government bring the perpetrators to justice.
The U.N. has about 20,000 peacekeepers in Darfur, where various rebel groups have fought the Sudanese government more than a decade, and more than two million people remain displaced from their homes.
