South Korea's coast guard said a diver has died in an attempt to cut a hole in the hull of a sunken ferry to search for more bodies.
Officials say the diver was pulled from the water Friday, unconscious and bleeding from his face. He died later in a hospital. No cause of death was given.
He is the second diver killed in the operation to retrieve hundreds of bodies from the ferry.
The 6,800-ton ferry Sewol capsized and sank on April 16. Passengers included 325 students from the same high school on a field trip to the southwest island of Jeju.
So far, 288 bodies have been recovered, with 16 others still missing.
About 172 people, including 22 of the ship's 29 crew members survived. The captain and three crew members have been charged with manslaughter.
The disaster shocked and angered South Korea. Widespread criticism was directed at the ship's crew for abandoning the overloaded vessel before an evacuation was fully under way.
