Saudi Arabia said Tuesday authorities have arrested three brothers in connection with last month's suicide bombing at a mosque in Kuwait that killed 27 people.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack in Kuwait City, which followed two similar suicide bombings at Shi'ite mosques in Saudi Arabia in May also claimed by the militants.

Saudi state media quoted interior ministry officials Tuesday as saying one brother was arrested in Kuwait, while a second was taken into custody in the southwestern Saudi city of Taif. The third brother was detained near the Saudi-Kuwait border after a shootout that left two Saudi security personnel wounded.

A fourth brother, the ministry said, is fighting with the Islamic State group in Syria.

The Sunni extremist Islamic State group considers Shi'ites to be heretics and has targeted them in attacks across the region.
