Soccer star David Beckham is pitching in to combat the spread of the Ebola virus with two public service video message for UNICEF.
The two videos will be broadcast in Sierra Leone, one of the worst
countries affected by the current outbreak of the disease.
In the video, the retired English footballer and father of four speaks directly to the citizens in the West African regions affected.
"The images are heart-wrenching. As a father, I can't imagine what it must feel like, seeing your child suffer and feeling so helpless. But there is something you can do. Unicef is on the ground, working around the clock to protect children and families from this deadly virus. Please give Unicef the help it needs to tackle this crisis. We're in a race against time,'' says Beckham.
Unicef is working to control the disease through public outreach campaigns designed to inform families of the virus' methods of transmission and hygiene.
Nearly 4,500 people have died in the outbreak, nearly all of them
in West Africa, out of a total of 8,997 confirmed, probable, and suspected cases reported in seven countries.
