The International Red Cross says that three months after devastating floods swept through Pakistan, more than a million people are still not able to return home.
The Red Cross says high waters in the southern province of Sindh have kept flood victims in tented camps where access to adequate shelter, food and clean water is limited.
In Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, the aid agency says most displaced families have returned to their villages only to find they have nothing to go home to. Water sources remain contaminated, basic services are inaccessible, and homes are severely damaged or destroyed.
More than 1,700 people were killed and nearly 20 million affected when floodwaters triggered by monsoon rains began sweeping through Pakistan in July.
The Red Cross also warns that stagnant pools of floodwater in Punjab and Sindh form a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of malaria and dengue fever.
The aid agency says it is working to distribute thousands of nets to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
