Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says he has not ruled out running for president in the country's 2012 election.
He spoke Wednesday - one day after President Dimitry Medvedev made a similar comment and pledged to give his answer soon.
In the past, Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Putin have both said they will decide together who will be the presidential candidate. But their latest remarks indicate a possibility that both could seek Russia's highest office.
Mr. Medvedev became Russia's president after Mr. Putin served two four-year terms in the post. A constitutional change has since increased the term to six years.
Both men have been asked to announce their decisions as soon as possible to avoid disrupting the work of the government.
