Russian state prosecutors have asked a court to convict an opposition leader charged with embezzlement and sentence him to six years in prison.
Prosecutor Sergei Bogdanov told the court in the city of Kirov on Friday that Alexei Navalny, who led protests against President Vladimir Putin, should also be fined $30,000.
Navalny is accused of embezzling $500,000 worth of timber from a state-owned company while working as an adviser to a provincial governor in 2009.
Navalny, who exposed alleged government corruption, says the charges are revenge and are intended to silence him.
