A gunman opened fire at a shopping mall near Dallas, Texas, killing eight people and wounding seven Saturday, according to authorities.
Officials say the shooter was shot to death by a police officer who happened to be at the Allen Premium Outlets.
Police have not yet released information about the identities of the victims or the shooter. However, children are believed to be among the victims, according to people who exited the mall afterwards.
Saturday’s incident is the latest in an unprecedented rash of mass shootings this year. They are happening at a rate of approximately one a week, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University.
