Egyptians went to the polls on 28 November and 4 December in two rounds of Parliamentary elections. What happened in these elections could have a tremendous impact on next year’s presidential election - and the Middle East region as a whole.
VOA recently hosted a panel discussion on the election. Our panelists included: Amb. Edward "Ned" Walker - Professor, Hamilton College and former U.S. Ambassador to Egypt and Israel; Dr. Saad Eldin Ibrahim – a Egyptian human rights and democracy activist; Karim Haggag - Director, Egyptian Press and Information Office; and Elizabeth Arrott – VOA’s Cairo Bureau Chief. The panel was moderated by VOA’s Mohamed Elshinnawi.
