Four Palestinians were killed and hundreds wounded Friday in violence across the Palestinian territories, amid more fallout following U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The Palestinian health ministry said two of the deaths occurred at the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip in clashes with Israeli soldiers. A third incident was reported north of Jerusalem, with the person shot in the chest by Israeli troops, according to the health ministry. Police said the fourth Palestinian was fatally shot after stabbing an Israeli border police officer near a checkpoint on the outskirts of Ramallah.

The clashes came after Gaza's ruling Hamas group called for another "day of rage" against Trump's announcement last week. Israelis and Palestinians alike claim Jerusalem as their capital.

Trump's announcement has caused a chill in U.S. diplomatic relations with the Palestinian government. Palestinian officials have canceled a scheduled meeting with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who is set to visit the area next week.

Trump's decision spurred thousands of Palestinians to take to the streets in protests and clashes with Israeli security forces.
