Pakistani airstrikes have killed at least 21 militants in their hideouts Sunday in a restive northwestern tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, officials say.
The attacks were launched in the Kuki Khel area of the Khyber tribal district, where the Taliban and another banned Islamist group, Lashkar-e-Islam, have taken refuge.
According to the Pakistan Defense Forces two militant hideouts were also destroyed. These claims could not be independently verified as journalists have limited access to the tribal agency.
Talking to VOA’s Deewa Service, Dr. Muhammad Taqi, a U.S.-based defense analyst and expert on Pakistan said a lot of terrorists have left the area that government forces are now targeting.
Pakistan’s army says it has killed more than 1,000 militants and lost 86 soldiers since the start of the operation.
