Pakistani officials say five militants, including suicide bombers, have been killed while trying to enter a military training area in the country's northwest.
Authorities say security forces opened fire on the attackers Tuesday as they tried to infiltrate the training center in the town of Mardan, near the Afghan border.
Officials say three suicide bombers detonated their explosives during the gunbattle, while two other militants were killed by troops. Four soldiers were wounded in the attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Taliban militants have carried out attacks in the area in the past.
