Intelligence officials in northwest Pakistan announced a U.S. drone strike has killed at least one suspected militant.
Authorities say the incident took place early Friday in North Waziristan, a tribal region near the Afghan border and known as a stronghold of Taliban and al-Qaida-linked insurgents.
Pakistan publicly condemns the drone campaign and wants the United States to end it, saying that it not only violates the country's sovereignty but that collateral damage caused by the strikes is fueling militancy in the region.
The U.S. rarely talks publicly about the drone program in Pakistan.
