U.S. President Barack Obama is marking the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by remembering the victims and honoring those who have sacrificed to make the United States safe.
During his weekly address Saturday, the president praised the courage of the first responders in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. He also praised the U.S. response to the attacks, saying al-Qaida's leadership has been shattered and Osama Bin Laden is no longer a threat.
Obama says the attacks did not force the U.S. to withdraw from the global community, but instead led it to build alliances while boosting security at home.
