Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi is meeting in Myanmar, also known as Burma, with some of the winning candidates from her National League Democracy party for the first time since clinching a majority of seats in the parliament earlier this month.

Although the NLD now has nearly 80 percent of the seats in parliament, the constitution prohibits Aung San Suu Kyi from becoming president because her late husband and children are British citizens.

Aung San Suu Kyi did not make any open comments, but her deputy warned the lawmakers about becoming complacent and not upholdiing the dignity of their chairwoman.

The military backed government has promised a smooth transition of leadership to the NLD party.
