Police in the U.S. state of Virginia are investigating a shooting at a Walmart store late Tuesday that left at least six people dead.
The city of Chesapeake said early Wednesday that police had confirmed the number of fatalities, and that the shooter was also dead.
Authorities have not said how the shooter died or given many details about the circumstances of the shooting.
A news conference was planned for Wednesday morning.
Walmart said in a statement it was "shocked at this tragic event."
"We're praying for those impacted, the community and our associates. We're working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates," the company said.
The attack comes just days after a shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, that left five dead and 18 wounded.
