WASHINGTON —
Michelle Obama says she'll spend her final year as first lady visiting gardens modeled on her vegetable plot on the White House South Lawn.
She's already made surprise visits to two District of Columbia elementary schools that started gardens.
Since planting the garden in 2009, Mrs. Obama says she's heard from lots of people who say she inspired them to start gardens and change how they think about the food they eat.
She says she'll travel the country to tell their stories and thank them for what they're doing.
Mrs. Obama made her announcement in a taped appearance Thursday on NBC's "Today.''
Her produce garden on the South Lawn evolved into "Let's Move,'' the anti-childhood obesity initiative she launched in 2010.
