Conservative favorite and Brexit proponent Boris Johnson has said he will not be running for Prime Minister of Britain.
Johnson announced that he will not be a candidate for leadership of the Conservative party, leaving Justice Secretary Michael Gove and Home Secretary Theresa May, who backed the remain campaign, as front-runners to lead the country.
Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation after Britain voted last week to leave the European Union.
Johnson, former mayor of London, strongly campaigned for the leave campaign and was expected by many to run to lead the country as it severs ties with the 28-nation bloc.
The next prime minister will be tasked with negotiating Britain's relations with the European Union as well as the rest of the world.
The country is expected to face harsh tarrifs and economic turmoil as a result of new trade deals with angry European nations.
Britain may also feel rising resentment from Scotland, which voted to remain in the bloc and may hold another referendum to secede from the United Kingdom.
