It's a wrap for Tuesday's events at the Republican convention in Cleveland. Here are the highlights:
-
Trump was officially nominated by the GOP to run on the presidential ticket. He addressed the delegates via a live video feed
-
It was mostly straightforward and peaceful, save for a bit of drama from the Alaska delegation (see earlier post)
-
We met two of Trump's children, Donald Jr. and daughter Tiffany, who spoke of her Father's virtuous character. Donald Jr. went hard on policy, starkly laying out how the elder Trump would tackle "head on" America's most pressing concerns: jobs, education, healthcare and the threat of terrorism
-
There were protesters outside the convention hall, including members of Black Lives Matter, ordinary citizens who were expressing frustration with all politicians and even a local militia
Former presidential hopeful and retired neurosurgeon also addressed the crowd at the convention in Cleveland. He was supportive of his former campaign competitor and rallied for unity in the GOP.
Trump, he said, understands the need to make American blessings "available to all, not just a privileged few." That's a theme Donald Trump Jr. also touched on during his keynote address.
Carson, in a slightly unusual twist, also implied a connection between Hillary Clinton and Lucifer, which started trending on Twitter:

Ben Carson just said Hillary serves lucifer. Let me repeat. A prime time speaker at RNC Convention accuses other candidate of devil worship
Carson said Clinton idolizes the infamous liberal radical Saul Alisnky, who he said, is “somebody who acknowledges Lucifer.”
During his address, Donald Trump Jr. spoke of his Father as "my best friend."
His address was full of policy initiatives, Obamacare, education, jobs and terrorism.
He pledged to work to elect a president that helps all, not just the few at the top of the American economy.
He said "We will kill Obamacare."
He called his Father: "A president who will tackle problems head on!"
And of ISIS and other terrorists: "We will wipe them out!"
Tiffany Trump, the nominee's daughter with his ex-wife Marla Maples, took the stage to talk about her Dad.
“He draws out the talent and drive in people so that they can achieve their full potential,” said Ms. Trump.
"That’s a great quality to have in a father. And better yet, in the President of the United States.”
