update

President Donald Trump is delivering his first State of the Union address. His address is highlighting a strong economy and call for bipartisan action on immigration. The televised speech before a joint session of Congress comes a year after Trump took office and about a week after a three-day government shutdown spawned by a fight over the federal government budget and how to deal with hundreds of thousands of immigrants who years ago came to the country illegally as children.

According to White House officials, major portions of the speech will focus on Trump's proposed immigration overhaul, his opposition to free trade pacts, and a plan to improve U.S. infrastructure.

Foreign policy is not usually a big issue in State of the Union addresses. But expect China, North Korea, and possibly Afghanistan, to come up.

Trump's speech was written by senior administration officials including Vice President Mike Pence, National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, economic adviser Gary Cohn, and others.

This is a word cloud of President Trump's Feb. 28, 2017, address to a joint session of Congress. The larger words are those he used most often.

Trump's theme for the speech is "building a safe, strong and proud America." White House officials say the address will have a bipartisan tone. But Trump frequently speaks off the cuff, even during scripted speeches, so it's worth keeping an eye on.
