The Pentagon says Kurdish fighters have successfully cleared territory and freed villages in northern Iraq from Islamic State.
The Kurdish forces, known as Peshmerga, were helped out by coalition airstrikes in seizing more than 200 square kilometers form the militants and clearing them out of seven villages since Wednesday.
Video released Friday by the Pentagon shows a U.S. airstrike destroying an Islamic State armored vehicle to be used as a truck bomb near Tuz in northern Iraq.
It says U.S.-led coalition airstrikes will continue destroying Islamic State positions, infrastructure, and equipment in support of the Kurds.
A Kurdish autonomous region encompassing large part of northern Iraq, has expanded since the fight against Islamic State began.
