U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has wrapped up a six-day Asian tour that took him to Indonesia, China and South Korea. He now heads for talks in Abu Dhabi on the Syrian civil war, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and Iran's nuclear program.
Kerry met Monday in Jakarta with the current secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to discuss mutual interests in the region. Kerry also met with his Indonesian counterpart, Marty Natalegawa, to discuss regional issues.
Kerry told an audience in the Indonesian capital Sunday that climate change is a threat to the entire world. He said the science of climate change is compelling the world to act and that the science is absolutely certain.
He arrived in Indonesia from China, where he talked about global warming and other matters with President Xi Jinping.
The two issued a joint statement recognizing the need for what they called urgent action to fight climate change, and to work together to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Many scientists believe burning fossil fuels in cars and factories is a major cause of global warming. The United States and China are the world's two biggest polluters.
Kerry's mission also took him to Seoul, South Korea.
