Crowds of well-wishers got one last glimpse Monday, April 11, of Prince William and Kate Middleton, in the couple’s final public appearances before their wedding later this month.
Heavy rain did not keep crowds away from greeting the couple in the northern town of Darwen in East Lancashire.
The couple met teachers and students as they formally opened a new school and launched an award in the prince’s honor.
The SkillForce Prince’s Award will honor a teenager - starting in 2012 - who shows significant character or makes a major contribution to the community. The prince is the patron of SkillForce, an education charity.
Prince William and his future wife then traveled to nearby Witton Country Park in Blackburn, where about 15,000 well-wishers greeted them. The couple watched several outdoor sporting events, and Middleton raised and dropped a flag to cue the start of a 100-meter race.
The visit wraps up a four-stop tour of the nation, Middleton could one day rule as queen after the couple’s April 29 wedding.
