A global journalists group awarded its annual free-speech prize Tuesday to three Al Jazeera television reporters who had been jailed in Egypt.
The International Association of Press Clubs gave its Freedom of Speech Award to Mohamed Fahmy, Peter Greste and Baher Mohamed. The association said they were honored for their "recognition of the defense of truth and freedom of expression while facing ongoing intimidation and imprisonment."
They were arrested in 2013 and sentenced to long prison terms, accused of spreading false news in support of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.
Greste was freed earlier this year and deported from Egypt to his native Australia. Fahmy and Mohamed were pardoned by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi last month, but white Greste is no longer in Egypt, he has still not been pardoned.
All three continue to call on Egyptian authorities to guarantee a free press.
