The mother of a Japanese journalist believed to have been killed by the masked Islamic State group militant known as "Jihadi John" said Friday she wishes to see no more violence, and that her peace-loving son would agree.
Junko Ishido, the mother of Kenji Goto, said she wants to see the world free of conflict, as her son had wished.
"I only wish there will be no more conflicts like these in this world, as my son had hoped to see peace prevail around the world," she told Japanese public broadcaster NHK in a telephone interview in response to news of the militant's possible death in a U.S. drone airstrike.
Goto was seen in an Islamic State group beheading video in January, apparently with militant Mohammed Emwazi, a British citizen known as "Jihadi John."
The U.S. says the drone strike targeted a vehicle in Syria believed to be carrying Emwazi.
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said the government is seeking details from Washington, as Japanese authorities continue to investigate the death of Goto and another victim, Haruna Yukawa, in Syria.
Goto left for Syria in late October last year, just a few weeks after the birth of his youngest daughter, apparently to look for Yukawa, who had been captured earlier. Soon after, he was captured by the militants.
